We found Maddie through a rescuer who saves dogs from the streets of Shanghai. If you ever met her, then you have firsthand knowledge of her impossibly soft fur and her gorgeous eyes that you’d swear were done up by a makeup artist. You’d have noticed her sweet, quiet personality with occasional flashes of goofiness, like when she’d chase her tail just like a dog in a cartoon. You might even  know how weirdly accommodating she was, like the time she had diarrhea in the middle of the night, and rather than wake us and ask us to be taken outside, she quietly pooped in the show as though she didn’t want to be a bother and instead just picked the most out-fo-the-way, easy-t-clean- spot in the house.

Maddie was a little shy around new people but it didn’t take her long to warm up. When she wanted you to rub her belly she lie on her back and show it to you. And when she wants you to scratch her ears, she’d cover her eyes with her pas and you’d be powerless to resist her ridiculous, over-the-top cuteness.

Maddie didn’t know how to catch. She got confused when other dogs tried to play with her. She wants great at leaning commands, and Shen she did learn to “sit” or “lie down”, she carried them out soooo slowly, as if she didn’t want to startle us by moving too fast. And every once in a while she’d roll around in the less-than-fragrant substances.

But none of that mattered because Maddie was by our sides through some of the most difficult events that our family has ever experienced. She was a calming, loving, cuddly presence through every single minute of it. And when it came to the end, we were able to be by her side, so grateful we could return the favor.

So go cuddle your best furry friend, end raise a bowl of high-quality kibble in honor of sweet, beautiful, unforgettable Maddie! Jojo, Dave & Sadie
